Born and raised in Dallas, William Jones is a graduate of Highland Park High School. Following high school, William moved to South Carolina after being accepted to Furman University where he studied Political Science and Philosophy. But William never intended to make South Carolina his permanent home. He envisioned his future in Dallas where he would follow in his father’s footsteps as an attorney. Upon graduation from Furman University, William returned to Dallas to attend SMU’s Dedman School of Law.

From early on, William had a passion for trial work. He wanted to spend as much time as possible in a courtroom in front of juries. This passion was further solidified during law school. After discussing his options with professors and local attorneys, William determined that the best way to accomplish his goals was to join the District Attorney’s Office after graduation.

Criminal Law Experience

William was hired by the Collin County District Attorney’s Office in September of 2005. He tried his first case as lead counsel within a couple weeks of joining the office and soon realized he had made the right choice for his career. As a misdemeanor prosecutor, William was in trial weekly handling cases such as DWI, DUI, Assault, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, and Theft — just to name a few. Along with taking cases to trial, William handled thousands of cases that resulted in plea bargains. His other duties included investigating cases, meeting with witnesses and victims, and interacting with local police officers.

Invaluable Criminal Trial Experience

After a short time as a misdemeanor prosecutor, William was promoted to Misdemeanor Chief where he was placed in charge of other prosecutors. Part of his duties as chief included training prosecutors on how to prepare and present a case in trial, as well as training police officers on what types of evidence to collect and how to testify in court. William’s courtroom successes continued, and he was quickly promoted to the felony division of the District Attorney’s Office.

As a felony prosecutor, William handled nearly every type of criminal case ranging from:

  • Felony Driving While Intoxicated (DWI)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
    • Cocaine
    • Crack Cocaine
    • Heroin
    • Methamphetamine
    • Ecstasy
    • Prescription Pills
  • Felony Theft
  • Fraud
  • Economic Crimes
  • White-Collar Crimes
  • Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle
  • Arson
  • Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
  • Assault of a Peace Officer
  • Robbery
  • Sexual Assault
  • Sexual Assault of a Child
  • Murder
  • Capital Murder

William was involved in every aspect of these cases from the investigation to plea negotiations, all the way to jury trial. As a felony prosecutor, William spent a year working in the white-collar crime division of the District Attorney’s Office. This unit handled complex white-collar cases including mortgage fraud, securities fraud, and complex theft cases.

William was also a member of the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association, and was involved in numerous events and training seminars. William has attended and participated in the TDCAA’s trial skills courses, homicide symposiums, and white-collar prosecution training.

Criminal Defense Expertise

During his six and a half years as a prosecutor for the Collin County District Attorney’s Office, William handled thousands of cases and was involved in over 250 trials. After handling this volume and breadth of cases, William felt it was time to leave the District Attorney’s Office and start a new chapter in his life.

After leaving the office, William partnered with one of his former co-workers, Fredrick Hull, and formed Jones & Hull, P.C. William and Fredrick decided to join forces because they believed their extensive experience and long time association with the District Attorney’s Office allowed them a unique perspective with which to help their clients. Having handled virtually every type of case imaginable, Fredrick and William know what to look for in an investigation. Their insight into how prosecutors will most likely present their cases allows them to secure the best possible results for clients.
